Small Group Tuition (SGT)
Small Group Tuition (SGT) is a specialised literacy and numeracy program designed to strengthen the foundational skills of students through targeted, small-group instruction. This program builds upon the success of the COVID Intensive Learning Support Program, which has been running in NSW public schools since 2021. The SGT initiative is funded by the NSW Department of Education and is available in every public school across the state.
At our school, the program is tailored to meet the specific learning needs of students who may:
- Require additional support to consolidate core skills in speaking, reading, writing, or numeracy; or
- Demonstrate high potential or giftedness, benefiting from enrichment and extension opportunities in a small-group learning environment.
Each session runs for 40 minutes, three times per week, and focuses on key aspects of literacy and numeracy aligned with classroom learning. Groups are intentionally kept small to ensure personalised attention and effective differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students.
The Small Group Tuition Program plays an important role in helping students build confidence, improve academic outcomes, and develop a stronger understanding of key learning concepts. Whether students need additional support to catch up or enrichment to extend their learning, this program ensures that every learner has the opportunity to thrive.
