Principal's message

My name is Martin Toaetolu and I am a strong advocate for public education having been a department employee for nearly 30 years. I am the Principal of a school that has exceptional teachers and leaders where students needs and learning form the central focus of our purpose and efforts.

Bass High has tertiary qualified staff who have undertaken extensive training to acquire design thinking skills. These skills can be used to implement approaches that target and improve whole school and classroom level practices. Our students have varied learning needs that are matched with targeted learning support and enrichment programs that diagnose, plan and implement relevant learning processes.

Our students cover the full range of academic abilities. They are articulate and optimistic of future options and are supportive of community events giving generously to charity organisations. The multicultural composition of the school underpins the school culture of tolerance and acceptance of diversity.

As a school we are looking at developing stronger links with our local community, understanding that individual student actions can drown out the collective voice. Our SRC students perform a street clean service twice a week for 10 minutes before school. We support both local and national charities, and community groups including the RSL.

My theme for 2020 is "Vision and Voice" as we are in the final year of the current school plan and will be moving towards writing a new school plan. Our school community will provide input into the vision and voice will be represented through actions formed and implemented.

I consider it a great honour to work and serve the community of Bass Hill.
