Targeted Learning Program - Taronga Zoo

Aya and Monique visited Taronga Zoo to explore a plethora of different career pathways available if they want to work with animals after school. They started the day with a tour of the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning where they learned about disease management, animal enrichment design and study pathways facilitated on site by the zoo. The students were also lucky enough to meet a five month old Wombat and a Spotted Python.

Aya and Monique spoke to teachers that work in the living classrooms at Taronga, keepers that feed and care for the animals and other staff that work to maintain operations at the zoo, including guest services and accomodation. The girls were lucky enough to have a personal tour of the Tiger exhibition where they got inside information about the Sumatran Tiger cubs that were born at Taronga in January this year.

It was a fantastic day that opened the girls eyes to some of the tertiary options if they have if they decide to pursue zoology. Thank you to Taronga Zoo for the support of the Targeted Learning Program and their hospitality on the day.
