Rugby League 2024

Bass Bulls Rugby League had an outstanding year with the girls making the National Finals and making two state Grand finals and the boys making the National semi-finals, making two state Grand Finals and winning the NSW University Shield title. Congratulations!

The St Mary’s Cup State Grand Final was played in Week 10 with both the Boys Open and the Girls Open teams winning their way to the Grand Final. Both teams went into the Grand Final with young squads to gain some invaluable experience and in hard fought games just went down to Hills Sports High School.

The Under 16 Girls Rugby League team progressed through the NSW All schools competition to make the Grand Final of the City cup before going down by one try to Tuggerah Lakes Secondary School. In the Under 15s Boys All Schools Competition the boys played extremely well to win the City Cup Grand Final before travelling to Gosford Stadium for the NSW City vs Country Final. In a tight contest where the lead changed many times the Bass boys did the school proud before going down to Maitland All Saints College.

In the University Shield competition from approximately 240 schools the Bass Bulls team won their State semi-final in Week 6 against Cronulla High School to progress to the State Final held at Cessnock in Week 9. The team proved to be to strong for Ashcroft High School to win back to back NSW University Shield competitions. Player of the Match was awarded to Matthew Barakat and Player of the Series was awarded to Simione Laiafi. Congratulations to the team and the coaching staff for all their early morning training sessions and hard work to earn Bass High School the title of State Champions for 2024.

In the Schoolgirl Cup Bass debuted a younger squad who proved to be very resilent. After a slow start to the competition the girls built up some combinations to win through to the semi-finals where they took on Erindale College. In pouring rain and mud the girls stuck together and played extremely tough to take out the win. In the finals Central Coast Sports College proved to be to strong with some very speedy outside backs. Once again the Bass Girls represented Bass High with pride to end a very successful female campaign.

In the National Schoolboy Cup the boys had some great results defeating Endeavour Sports High School and St Dominics College to progress to the Top 8 where they took on Hunter Sports High School. In a hard fought game and a tale of two halves the boys started slowly before coming back to win and qualify for the semi-finals. In wet conditions which didn't suit Bass's playing style, the boys just went down to Erindale College to end a very successful year.

We were also lucky enough to have a number of NSW and Australian representatives in 2024.
