Taster Lessons
Throughout Term 2, the Welfare faculty have been pleased to host a number of high school taster days for Year 6 students from our partner primary schools.
Chester Hill PS, Villawood East PS and Wattawa Heights PS all visited Bass High for a day in Term 2 and students participated in a number of authentic lessons. These lessons were similar to what they might experience in Year 7.
Taster lessons are an important part of the Year 6 – 7 transition process. It allows students to become familiar with the differences between high school and primary school and to feel comfortable with a new set of systems and processes. Year 6 student have been introduced to some of our state of the art facilities and participated in lessons including, English, History, Science, Geography, PDHPE, Food Technology, Multimedia, Music and Social Literacy.
Bass High teachers have been impressed with the maturity, effort and behaviour of our Year 6 visitors. We look forward to welcoming many of the Year 6's to Bass next year.
Police Programs
Bass High School is very lucky to have a positive relationship with our local police command. We have been working with our local Police School Liaison Officer to implement a number of programs and workshops to educate our students on their rights and responsibilities as a citizen. It is important young people be made aware of changes in legislation in regards to gangs, graffiti and travel on public transport. The Police Liaison Officer works with schools to promote a positive police image with adolescents. The Police School Liaison Officer is able to support the school with the facilitating of workshops, providing advice and working in small groups with our students. Look out for dates in Term 3 when Year 9, 10 and 11 students will be working closely with the Police School Liaison Officer.
Bunnings BBQ
Year 12 ran a Bunnings BBQ on Sunday June 30th at Villawood Bunnings on Woodville Road. All money raised on the day will go towards Year 12 year activities and a gift for the school.
