Debating

Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace!

Often heard at weddings, the need to speak out has produced a union of intellect and dialogue at Bass High to establish the profile of our talented debate and public speaking students.

We celebrate a gallery of achievements:

Bass High Debating

A number of Bass High teams have achieved zone champion status and gone on in the NSW Premier's Debating Challenge competition to become interzone finalists..

In 2012 a BHS debate student was selected as a member of South Western Sydney Region Combined High School Debate team.

Also during 2012 one of our foundation debate students was zone winner in the Sydney Morning Herald Plain English Speaking Competition, proudly going up against some of the region's top students from selective high schools.

Let us also speak out about the Bankstown City Council 2012 Youth Summit! Six students from Bass High School Debate and Public Speaking Program and Bass Student Representative Council (SRC) delivered presentations to a youth forum formed from ten public and private secondary schools in the Bankstown area. The topics presented had been identified by the council's youth advisory service as being serious concerns for our young people.

The Bass High School year 12 team won their presentation category, receiving a dedicated plaque plus $500 for our school. The money was used to purchase blazers for our students participating in the school's Public Speaking and Debating Program.
