Bass High School P&C Report 2015
Thank you to everyone who has attended our P&C Meetings throughout the year. The feedback from the parents has been positive. The committee is aware that there is a transition for parents regarding the P&C Association's role at Primary and High School.
Reasons for attending Bass High P&C Meetings are:-
¿ To meet staff members
¿ To be well informed about school events
¿ To celebrate school/students' achievements
¿ To support the school community
¿ To participate in school decision making
¿ To ask questions
¿ To voice an opinion
¿ To make friends
¿ To be entertained
¿ To help our children achieve their potential
The year started busily with further plantings and maintenance of our P&C gardens. I would like to thank our P&C Executive and our hard working GA, John Mayhem for always making themselves available to work in the gardens and for their happy disposition.
This year we were pleased to have the dedication of our ANZAC Memorial gardens on the 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign. We are the only school in our district to have an ANZAC Memorial garden. Our 2015 ANZAC Day Service was special and our student's rendition of letters home from diggers gave us a further connection to the human face of war.
Once again 2015 was a busy year for parent representatives on selection panels for new head teachers & staff. Our school attracts outstanding candidates for all advertised positions. Being involved in the procedure for these appointments is both lengthy and enlightening for the parents and teachers where both work collaboratively to select the best staff for our school. We successfully applied for community funding through the Community Building Partnerships Program. This year we received a grant of $20,000.00 to equip our food tech department to enable them to open and operate the Bass Cafe´ which services our students, staff and wider community while offering opportunities for our students to learn working skills which will equip them in the workforce in Hospitality fields.
The P&C would like to extend our thanks to our local member for Bankstown, Tania Mihailuk for her ongoing support of Bass High School re the Community Building Partnerships Program.
Next year, we will see great improvement in the school's canteen facilities. Bass High has accepted a lease offer and we trust that everyone will be equally excited with this transformation of our canteen.
Bass High School and Community has faced some challenging times this year. It is the whole community's responsibility to protect the vulnerability of our children from undesirable, destructive influences. Our close community ties with authorities continue to strengthen, keeping our school a safe place for our children, staff, parents and community. This is something we can be proud of and we extend our appreciation to our Principal and Staff for their hard work and dedication to our children's wellbeing.
Secondary school education builds the foundation for life long learning; a strong foundation is needed to equip our children with the skills which lead to successful and full lives. The P& C wishes successful futures to all year 12 students who sat their Higher School Certificate Exams this year.
Our school continues to grow from strength to strength because of the strong leadership shown by the principal, deputies and executive staff. With such leadership our children's futures will undoubtedly be nothing short of successful.
We wish all our families a Merry Christmas, Peace and Goodwill to all mankind. Enjoy family time together over the school holidays, be kind to one another and remember to tell your loved ones how much you love them.
