Goals Program

Bass High School continues to be a participant in the GOALS Program.  Run by the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN), a coalition of 30 national and international business organisations, the program matches members of the business community with Year 9 students in a one-on-one mentoring program.

The program is specifically designed to give Year 9 students from high-needs schools an insight into the working world and access to business networks.  It is designed to broaden understanding of, and access to, a range of work and business opportunities and is particularly aimed at those students at risk of disengagement from school and study.

GOALS 2014

The GOALS program for 2014 was launched at school on the 30th of May, 2014 for the 20 candidates who were successfully selected after undergoing a rigorous interview process. A scrumptious breakfast was held by Mr. King and his talented year 12 hospitality students to help celebrate the momentous occasion for the students, mentors and their proud parents.

The 2014 GOALS program requires students to attend 5 excursions over the year. The first session took place on the 20th of June, 2014 at Allen and Overy's city office overlooking the spectacular harbour views. The session comprised of developing student 'goal setting' skills. Students worked in groups together with their mentors on a number of challenges given to student groups. A representative from each group was required to stand up and talk about their project. Bass students were outstanding in their efforts and diligence in completing the challenge. A special mention to Chantelle Talaba who is to be congratulated on her outstanding efforts and exceptional speech.

Session 2 of the GOALS program will be held on the 2nd of August, 2014. In this session students will learn about various effective methods of communication, including interview skills.  Students will once again be travelling to the city to the Allen and Overy's office with their teacher Ms. Perumal.

Students and mentors thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and consider it highly beneficial in opening up new and productive relationships between Bass High and the wider community.
